How-To With Silk Rider
“Silk Rider” started out after an overland trip to the Caucasus Mountains and then a 2,300 km ride around Morocco and the Sahara Desert.
Today, #teamsilkrider is an international Rally Raid-team competing in the W2RC. The idea behind #teamsilkrider has always been that anyone can follow Silk Rider on his journey to compete at the highest levels with no outside assistance and an enterprising DIY spirit. Everything we do is open to everyone to watch along on our YouTube channel!
Changing Mousses
Changing mousses is not like changing regular inner tubes. At a minimum you need a tire changing stand with a lever with plenty of leverage and additional curved tire levers (4 or 5) in order to easily remove and install mousses.
Here's a video that goes through the single most toughest mousse change that #teamsilkrider does often for rally races. It's the super hard front Desert Race tire and mousse.
Valve Clearances and How to Get Service Manuals
Many private mechanics shy away from doing valve clearances because it’s a fiddly job and can seem complicated.
With the help of the official KTM service manual you can learn how to knock out this job with little fuss. The important things are to set aside free time, have a clean and organized work space, and write down the required values.
Clutch Maintenance and Inspection
This has got to be the only clutch video you will ever need for dirt bikes!
We go through a full inspection, not just of the clutch pack but the rest of the parts making up the clutch assembly: bearings, rubber dampers, and Belleville spring adjustment. All taken straight from the 2020 KTM 450 EXC-F service manual!
